Scan is permanent LED light installation at the Cyberneum of the Max-Plank Institut for biological Cybernetics, Tübingen, Germany. As an animated light drawing, it refers directly to the architecture of the Cyberneum. Scaled down to a fifth of their original size, the elevations of the building are projected as a large drawing across the West and South facades. The LEDs are triggered in random intervals. Between every 30 seconds to two minutes, points of very bright light run in a horizontal direction over the facade creating a scan effect.

The complete drawing – a virtual representation of the Cyberneum - is only experienced as a fading after image. In this fugitive gesture the artwork presents itself as a self-referring process, which redefines the building as an interface between virtual and real space.
